  Everyday, right here in Sarasota County and throughout the United States, hundreds of elderly and disabled people go hungry.

To help meet the needs of the homebound residents in Sarasota, we need volunteers to deliver meals, package the meals, and to work at our desk answering calls from people requesting our services.

All new volunteers drivers, desk personnel, and kitchen aids are provided training on their first day by another experienced volunteer.

 
 
 
  DESK PERSONNEL
Required Skills:
  • Able to answer phones in courteous matter
  • Write down names and addresses clearly
  • Use a copy machine
  • Process paperwork as needed for the drivers
  • Must have dependable transportation
  • Be able to function under stress at times
  • Able to work 8-11 A.M. one morning a week
  • Enjoy working with and helping the elderly
Notes:
May have to deliver meals in an emergency when the regular driver is unable to drive the route.
  KITCHEN AIDES
Required Skills:
  • Able to stand on your feet for approximately two hours at a stretch
  • Able to put food into meal containers fast
  • Have a sense of humor and laugh with one's co-workers
  • Must have dependable transportation
  • Be able to work one morning a week
Notes:
Kitchen aids are not required to cook or clean. We have two very dependable and wonderful cooks to take care of those tasks.
  VOLUNTEER DRIVERS
Required Skills:
  • Must have dependable transportation
  • Valid driver's license and auto liability insurance as required by the State of Florida
  • Some knowledge of the Sarasota area
  • Cheerful and caring attitude an absolute must
  • Be able to get in and out of car easily
  • Work approximately three hours per week
  • (Most drivers complete their meal deliveries before 12:00 Noon.)
Notes:
More than just delivering life-giving food, volunteer drivers provide a vital link to those they serve. For many clients, the few minutes they have with a volunteer may be their only face-to-face contact with someone all day. By participating you can "Make Their Day".
